The Member of the Wedding by Carson McCullers - until Sat 20 October

Georgia, in the sultry summer of 1945. Lonely tomboy Frankie shares her crazy dreams with the family maid. Desperate to leave her childhood world behind, she longs to run away with her brother and his new wife and become 'a member’ of their wedding.

Famous for her best selling novels The Heart is a Lonely Hunter and The Ballad of the Sad Cafe, Carson McCullers wrote The Member of the Wedding sitting at one end of a dinner table as Tennessee Williams wrote Summer and Smoke at the other. She was a life-long friend of Tennessee Williams and one of the group of great Southern writers that includes Truman Capote, Harper Lee and William Faulkner.
